Interdisciplinary Postdoc Position (2 years, full time)

Digital surveillance and technological sovereignty

In a world where the digital landscape evolves at lightning speed, the quest for understanding and navigating its implications has never been more crucial. Surveillance, a longstanding practice, has undergone a seismic shift with the advent of digital technologies. Now, public actors wield unprecedented power to conduct both broad-scale and targeted surveillance, raising profound questions about national security and individual rights.  In a context of increasing geopolitical and economic tensions, European States are increasingly supporting strategies that promote technological sovereignty, which aim to guarantee more control over surveillance technologies, prevent security threats and better protect individual rights.

At Dublin City University (DCU), we’re on the lookout for an exceptional scholar to delve into this dynamic field of digital surveillance and technological sovereignty from an interdisciplinary perspective. The selected candidate will be offered a 2-year Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoc fellowship programme – SyMeCo – and will be working under the supervision of Prof Regina Connolly, at DCU Business School, and Dr Edoardo Celeste at DCU School of Law and Government.  This programme provides fantastic research, training and career development opportunities for postdoctoral researchers.  More information on the fellowship, application process and other details are available here.

We’re seeking someone with a PhD and a passion for digital business, digital law, and comparative studies. The start date of the contract will be between September 2024 and January 2025. Interested candidates should send a short research proposal and CV to by 30th May.

Join us and take the first step in shaping the future of digital governance — it’s a journey worth taking!

At DCU, we embrace equality, diversity, and inclusion, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. For any questions or to dive deeper into this exciting opportunity, reach out to or
