DCU Law and Tech hosts a dynamic group of researchers with multiple disciplinary backgrounds, ranging from law and political science to computing and engineering.

This research offers a comprehensive post-implementation review of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), examining its multifaceted effects and implications since its enforcement in May 2018. The project explores how the GDPR has shaped data protection practices across the European Union and beyond, analyzing its influence on legal compliance, organizational behavior, individual rights, and cross-border data governance.

Edoardo Celeste

Edoardo Celeste is an Associate Professor of Law, Technology and Innovation at the School of Law and Government of Dublin City University. Edoardo is the Programme Chair of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Law, Data and Artificial Intelligence (EMILDAI), the Deputy-Director of the Dublin European Law Institute (DELI), the coordinator of the DCU Law and Tech Research Cluster, and a founding member of the Digital Constitutionalism Network.

Oscar Josafat Leyva Ferzuli

Oscar Josafat Leyva Ferzuli is currently completing a Master’s degree in Law, Data and Artificial Intelligence (EMILDAI) at Dublin City University. He holds an LLB from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, with academic interests centred on digital law and the governance of emerging technologies. Oscar has been selected as a PhD researcher at the School of Law and Government, where his research will focus on AI regulation, digital sovereignty, and the future of the EU defence strategy. His doctoral work is supervised by Dr. Edoardo Celeste and Dr. Kenneth McDonagh.

Lucas Maldonado Diz Latini

Lucas Maldonado Diz Latini is a Brazilian-qualified lawyer with a Master’s degree in Law and Technology and a Specialisation in Intellectual Property and New Business from FGV Brazil. He is currently a Master’s candidate in the European Master in Law, Data and Artificial Intelligence (EMILDAI). Lucas is an Associate Researcher at the Center for Teaching and Research in Innovation (CEPI) at FGV Direito SP and a Research Intern at the Law and Tech Research Cluster at Dublin City University (Ireland). He is also a member of the Attorneys Association of São Paulo (AASP) and the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI).
