ADAPT Researcher Wins Best Paper Award at Annual Privacy Forum

DCU Law and Tech regularly publishes news posts discussing the topics Law and Technology written by a variety of authors.

We are thrilled to announce that the paper “Implementing ISO/IEC TS 27560:2023 Consent Records and Receipts for GDPR and DGA,” led by ADAPT researcher Dr. Harshvardhan Pandit, has been awarded the Best Paper Award at the prestigious Annual Privacy Forum (APF). This forum, organised by ENISA and the EU Commission, is a renowned event bringing together policymakers, authorities, researchers, and practitioners in the field of privacy and data protection.

The paper is the result of an international collaboration involving Dr. Pandit, Jan Lindquist (co-editor of ISO/IEC TS 27560:2023), and Georg Philip Krog (chief legal counsel and founder of Signatu). Their work represents a major milestone in enhancing transparency and accountability through streamlined consent processes, with a specific focus on the Consent Receipt.

The research explores the practical implementation of ISO/IEC TS 27560:2023, particularly in relation to consent records and receipts within the frameworks of the GDPR and DGA. It highlights the effectiveness of the Data Privacy Vocabulary (DPV)—an open community resource developed under the leadership of Dr. Pandit and the ADAPT Centre. The DPV has become an invaluable tool for clarifying and streamlining compliance with EU regulations like the GDPR, driving innovation in legal and technical systems.

Looking Ahead: New Developments in Data Privacy

Building on this success, the ADAPT Centre team is now working on technical specifications to enable systems to implement ISO/IEC TS 27560-compliant consent records. Additionally, they are developing specifications for other EU regulations, including the GDPR, AI Act, and NIS2. These advancements aim to automate compliance processes, support organisations in meeting their legal obligations, and enhance policy enforcement.
